About Guatemala
Guatemala is the largest country in Central America, having twice the population of the second most populous country in the region, with 14 million total people. It's nominal GDP is around $39 billion, so it's not such a small fish. The largest economic activities include manufacturing, especially appliances, the cultivation of corn, beans, fruits, etc., call centers, and tourism. Almost three million tourists a year visit Guatemala, many of them on the 100 cruise ships that stop here per year.
From the ruins of the Mayan civilization and all its vestiges to Lake Atitlan, a nominee for one of the new 7 Natural Wonders of the World, to the volcanoes, volcanic lakes, wetlands, and beaches to the colonial city of Antigua where people still ride horses over the cobblestone streets, Guatemala is a beautiful country filled with attractions.
There is also an active bar scene, some places having a better drink selection than others, and hundreds of hundreds of restaurants with every type of food imaginable. Everything is significantly cheaper than products of comparable quality in the USA or the UK. Something that tends to surprise people are VIP movie theaters which have Lazy Boy type seats, with lamps between every two seats, waiters to bring you sushi, crepes, popcorn, Skittles, etc. There are also Imax theaters, museums, many jade shops. Some of this is in the 19 shopping malls, and the rest is scattered around the city.
There are direct flights from Europe, North America, and South America, so do come and visit and see all of this and more for yourself.
